Former special police force in the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine whose functions included public security and fighting organized crime. The force earned infamy for its regular involvement in crackdowns on civil protests. Berkut proved to be particularly brutal during the confrontation with the activists of the Revolution of Dignity in Kyiv. Most of the personnel of the Sevastopol and the Crimean Berkut units took part in the pro-Russian rebellion in Crimea in 2014.
