Yanukovych Viktor Fedorovych

Year of birth: 1950. Former President of Ukraine. In his youth, he was sentenced to two terms in prison on criminal charges. He worked at various enterprises of Donetsk Oblast. It is believed that during this period Yanukovych was associated with the organized crime in the Donbas. Chairman of the Donetsk Oblast Administration (1997-2002), Donetsk Oblast Council (1999-2001). In 2002-2005 and 2006-2007 – Prime Minister of Ukraine. Leader of the Party of Regions. In 2004, he ran for the office of the President of Ukraine. He was declared the winner based on the rigged results, which caused massive protests known as the Orange Revolution. He won the 2010 presidential election. The Yanukovych regime was marked by corruption, authoritarian tendencies and a pro-Russian course in both domestic and foreign policy. This eventually led to a new social explosion – the Revolution of Dignity, causing Yanukovych to flee to Russia in February 2014. In 2019, the Ukrainian court sentenced him in absentia to 13 years of prison on charges of high treason and complicity in the aggressive war against Ukraine.
