Year of birth: 1957. Ukrainian politician, chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People. Born into a family of deported Crimean Tatars. A historian by training. From 1989 to 1991, he was a member of the Riga City Council (Latvia). In 1991, the Qurultay appointed him the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. Head of the Mejlis since 2013. Member of the Ukrainian parliament in 1998-2007 and 2015-2019. Coordinated the activities of the Crimean Tatar national movement during the annexation of Crimea in 2014. He was denied entry to the ARC by the Russian occupation authorities on 07/05/2014. In 2021, the Russian-controlled Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea sentenced Chubarov in absentia to 6 years in prison for organization of mass riots in 2014.
